Erasmus student, February 2008
« on: 29. January 2008, 02:35:46 »

Hello everybody!: )

I'm an Erasmus student at AUTH and I'll move to Thessaloniki at the end of February this year. I applied for a room in one of the dormitories (Kassandrou Street) but some former students told me some of the rooms don't have a separate bathroom. Is it possible? The price is 240 Euro per month and I'll be really surprised if I have to share a bathroom with tens of other people..

The problem is they'll make me pay for the room 3 months in advance before I have seen it and I wouldn't like to get cheated. What advice could you give me?   ??? Should I find private accommodation?

Thanks in advance for your help!  :)

Hello Arcane,

take a look at this Thread is there anybody who's going to thessaloniki?
and this one
I need advice for a flat

I ould recommend u take a flat by yourself or with another person. but the thing is, that u must be in the city to find something. I think, it's gonna be better for u. it's not that much expensive. I live in an apartment with two rooms, a small kitchen, a bathroom, a small hall and I'm paying 300 EURO/month.

im also coming on 25th february from turkey as an exchange student for english language depertmant but im a lil bit anxious about my english for communicating people because im not good in eng:)and i chose a dorm called kassandrou but i think 240 is expensive nyway erasmus gives us 400 euro per month.
i heart that there is a dorm around or in the campus which costs 50 euro per year.but it doesnt accept the exchangers which is very ridiculous :-\

Thanks to everybody for the answers and the info provided! :)

I have another question: how much does it cost to have the Internet per month in Thessaloniki?

@Savvy?!: 300 Euro for two rooms and a kitchen is really cheap and sounds great. Does this price include electricity, water and other bills? It would be great if I find something like that. The AUTH administration gave me a double room at 134 Kassandrou Str (that's very near AUTH) that has a bathroom and a kitchenette for 210Euro per month. I hope it will be OK. The only inconvenience is that the bed is a bunk bed :)

If somebody from the forum is willing to rent an apartment/room etc with me, write a personal message pls. If we find something better than the dormitories, we could rent it for the semester.

@marigitte: Do not worry about your English, you're coming to improve it, so study hard and you won't have problems. The reason I chose Greece is because I want to improve my Modern Greek. I'm intermediate now and I hope that after a semester I'll speak it very well.

@gosia: I don't know anybody from my university that's going to ATEI. Why don't you ask them to give you some other students' contacts?

@driver: Thanks for the link. Do you have anything to do with that profile?

i don't know in person the people who created that myspace site...but i know that their parties and events are the best for erasmus students...I myself was an erasmus student once and I know how important those events are in your first days in thessaloniki...later on I think you would know where to party!!  ;D ;D

No unfortuanely, there's nothing included, just the monthly rent. Water is nothing, it's about 15Euros/3months. The electricity can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but not in the summer :D
Is the room at the dorms? I haven't been there, so I don't know how it is. One friend of mine live at the dorms. it's one room..or better: a hole. But a double room doesn' sound that bad ;)
I would prefer to live in an appartment, but maybe as an erasmus student it's more fun, check it out and then decide.

as an erasmus student i recommend to stay at the dorms! the apartments are good when you invite parents or many friends over to your place.
